[When strange things happen in Paris, it's usually safe to blame them on an akuma.
Someone getting terrorized by an invisible being? Akuma. A floating girl who can cause terrible weather? Akuma. Being able to pause and play people with the swipe of a phone? Akuma. And darn it, Hawkmoth, that was her best friend, could you just not?
Point being, Marinette Dupain-Cheng has dealt with quite a lot of weird stuff in her time, and it's almost always led back to Hawkmoth in the end. So, when she hears rumors about some super-fast guy in a red-and-yellow costume (courtesy of Alya, who had been in line for a croissant when the boy had whizzed in, paid, and whizzed out, and of course she'd recorded the whole thing), naturally she assumes the villain has something to do with it.
That's why she's all suited up as Ladybug even though it's the middle of the day, keeping an eye out for anyone who happens to be moving too quickly or is dressed too brightly. She's just lucky it's a Saturday and she doesn't actually have class today, or this could be a pain.
She sees a blur of red-and-yellow, and all at once she's in motion, throwing herself from the rooftop she'd perched on and hopefully landing in his path.]
Hold it!
[Maybe she should have called Chat Noir, but he was unlikely to be transformed this time of day and she didn't have any way of contacting him out of costume. This would have to do for now. If he read Alya's blog, he might be along soon; if he was busy, maybe not. Either way, Ladybug was apparently going to confront this newcomer alone.]
Where are you off to in such a hurry, huh?

/slides in late with starbucks
Um, nowhere? [He stands up a little straighter, wondering if he should at least try to speak in French. Try being the key word. Kid Flash also wasn't so good at picking up languages. Oh and she's pretty cute too!
His luck was looking up: for a second there, he was afraid he was running afoul of that Cat Noir. Cue the Kid Flash SmileTM.]
I've gotta say, I wasn't expecting to run into you today, ma chérie. Ladybug, right?
heck yeah, starbucks!
They'll just have to stumble along in a very limited mishmash of French and English.
...wait, she understood "ma chérie"!]
Uh-uh. No nicknames. [She steps forward and puts a finger to his lips to silence him - she gets enough of that from her silly cat, thank you very much; the last thing she needs is some other costumed guy getting in the habit. But, on the other hand, at least this wasn't an akuma after all. There would be less banter and more attempts at causing destruction and stealing her Miraculous if he was one of Hawk Moth's minions.]
You have me at a disadvantage - you know my name, but I don't know yours. [She eyes him up and down.] Who are you?
no subject
Or well, he would, if Ladybug hadn't silenced him. He blinks back surprise, before taking a step back and pulling out that cell phone.
In heavily American-accented French,] I'm Kid Flash. From Central City?
[He has no idea if that'll ring any bells. If she pays attention to the global news, maybe?]
Sidekick to THE Flash? Or well, ex-sidekick? I'm kinda trying the solo thing out.
